Minister to Children and Families

Carmel United Methodist Church is looking for a highly energetic person who is passionate about their
personal faith and their love for children to know Jesus. The primary purpose of the Minister to Children
and Families is to spearhead the growth of our church’s ministry to children, along with their families,
both within and outside of the congregation.

This role will be experienced in leading children, someone who can easily engage with and communicate
with young ones and who has a strong love for families. In addition, we seek someone who can attract
and retain new kids and families, manage teams of staff and volunteers, and have a mature relationship
with God.

Sharing love for Jesus and showing families how to live out their faith will be the pillars of the
work.

Summary of Core duties and responsibilities:

● Design, oversee, recruit leaders, and select curriculum for: Childcare Ministry, Children’s Sunday
School, Family Mission Opportunities, Family Fun Nights, and more.
● Develop new programs for children and family from both the church and community.
● Provide a children’s moment during Sunday worship services
● Direct annual programming focused on children and families. Examples include: Vacation Bible
School, the Children’s Christmas Play and Christmas Service, Family Devotionals, and the Summer
Camp Series
● Implement Safe Sanctuaries practices
● Collaborate with the CUMC preschool leadership on events, be present at preschool events, lead
events such as preschool chapel and Godly play
● Collaborate with CUMC music ministries on children’s choirs and music outreach
● Create and manage a children’s ministry calendar that drives all events and activities within the
ministry.

Leadership

● Create a strong vision and goals, in collaboration with Connections Minister and Lead Pastor to
set the direction, tone, and vision for overall spiritual direction of children’s ministry
● Create a Children’s Ministry leadership team to help spearhead projects, events, and direction of
the Children’s Ministry.
● Collect and share metrics related to the goals of the ministry to leadership, governing council,
and the congregation
● Promote children’s events by collaborating with the marketing director through various
communication methods including, but not limited to social media, newsletters, church bulletin,
and email communications
● Develop and maintain the Children’s Ministry budget in partnership with Finance and SPRC
● Attend CUMC staff meetings, worship planning meetings, and admin meetings, when requested
● Be an advocate of children and families and their needs as related to worship and discipleship.
● Educate, encourage, and facilitate children participation in church-wide community outreach
initiatives.
● Find opportunities for the whole church to include children in experiences and opportunities for
church to include children in their ministries.
● Maintain proficiency through continued professional education

Volunteer Management

● Recruit/Train leaders in children’s ministry programs
● Delegate volunteers to organize curriculum, resources, and newsletters where needed
● Shepherd volunteers through their own spiritual growth and development

Pastoral Duties:

● Participate regularly in weekend worship programs .
● Serve in outreach events and within other ministries as needed.
● Serve in Sunday worship - outside of standard children’s moment - where needed
● Participate in hospital visits for congregation members and visitation ministry
● Participation in community events to further the reach of Children’s and Family Ministry
