Job Description – Children’s Ministry Coordinator

Title:  Trinity UMC Children’s Ministry Coordinator

Reports to: Senior Pastor

Classification: Salaried

Status: Part-Time Support Staff

Health/Dental/ Vision Coverage: N/A

Reduced Preschool Tuition:  Per Preschool Board

Job Summary

The purpose of this ministry is to create a passionate children’s program that captures the hearts and minds of children as they learn to become disciples of Jesus. This position works to inspire volunteers to invest their energy toward this passion. The Children’s Ministry Coordinator is responsible for implementation of Trinity UMC’s mission, vision, and values in all children’s programming by working in partnership with the congregation at Lapel and TLC campuses as well as the surrounding communities.

Qualification

  • A strong, articulated personal relationship with Jesus Christ that manifests itself in a consistent devotional life.
  • The ability to pray with and lead another person to a faith in Christ.
  • A demonstrated love for, and history of, interacting with children.
  • An understanding of child development as a result of successful completion of certified courses, training seminars, and/or prior work experience.
  • A desire to help children grow spiritually in an age-appropriate way.
  • Proven expertise in administration skills.
  • Demonstration of excellence regarding interpersonal skills.
  • Values and practices organizational abilities.
  • Proven team leader and team player.
  • Respects and demonstrates the critical need for confidentiality.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Provide for the intentional faith development of children (birth – 5th grade) on Sunday mornings and assist with monthly planning.
  • Maintain and comply with all procedures and requirements of Trinity’s Child Protection Program. Complete the process for necessary background checks for every volunteer in a timely manner.
  • Represent the interests of children in all decision-making meetings within the church.
  • Relationship building is priority which requires a demonstration of positive, helpful, and reassuring interaction with children and parents.
  • Responsible for recruiting, training, supervising, and evaluation processes for the leadership of all educational studies, programs, and activities for children.
  • Research, develop, adapt, prepare and approve curriculums for all children’s programming, with the final approval by the pastor.
  • Offer on-going outreach opportunities for children and their families that are not connected to Trinity UMC.
  • Provide tools for families that can assist holistic spiritual growth within the home.
  • Develop on-going training programs for all Children’s Ministries volunteers.
  • Serve as spiritual shepherd (prayer, encouragement and affirmation) to all participants in Children’s Ministry.
  • Develop and/or oversee all communications (including social media) intended to connect parents and families to this ministry and to Trinity UMC.
  • Participate annually in at least 2 training opportunities and/or continuing education.
  • Prepare and oversee the Children’s Ministry budget including program expenses, supplies, equipment, and training.
  • Abide by Trinity UMC’s strategic planning guidelines for fruitful goals in all areas of Children’s Ministry. Train all leaders to do the same.
  • Conduct regular leadership team meetings.
  • Attend youth Advisory Meetings.
  • Attend Trinity’s staff meetings.

Work Authorizations and Security Clearance

In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification documentation upon hire. Background checks, including criminal and education are required.
