ATS Commission on Accreditation to Visit Christian Theological Seminary for Comprehensive Evaluation

 

This spring (March 9–12, 2026), Christian Theological Seminary will host a delegation from the Association of Theological Schools (ATS) as the Seminary seeks reaffirmation of its accreditation. The ATS Commission on Accreditation (COA) will conduct a comprehensive evaluation visit to verify that the institution meets all applicable Commission Standards of Accreditation.

As part of the evaluation process, ATS invites members of the public to submit comments regarding how well the Seminary meets accreditation standards and/or demonstrates overall educational quality. Comments may be submitted in writing to the Accrediting Visits Coordinator at least two weeks prior to the visit by emailing accrediting@ats.edu.

Comments may also be mailed to Christian Theological Seminary, Office of the Dean, 1000 W. 42nd Street, Indianapolis, IN 46208 (ATTN: Dr. Rob Saler). All comments will be shared with the onsite evaluation committee.

Following the onsite review, the Commission on Accreditation will consider CTS’s reaffirmation of accreditation during its June 2026 meeting. The Seminary’s current period of accreditation expires July 31, 2026.

Christian Theological Seminary is currently accredited in good standing, meaning it meets all applicable COA Standards of Accreditation, demonstrates educational quality and financial stability, and provides evidence that student learning outcomes are appropriate, rigorous, and being achieved. The Seminary has no public sanctions (notation/warning, probation, or show cause) and is approved to offer six degrees: Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.), Doctor of Ministry (D.Min.), Master of Divinity (M.Div.), Master of Theological Studies (M.T.S.), Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy (MAMFT), and Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling (MACMHC).

Christian Theological Seminary has been accredited by ATS since 1944. [insert year]. Its accreditation was last reaffirmed in Spring 2018 based on an institutional self-study report and an onsite evaluation by a committee of peer and public reviewers.
