Dr. Jimmy Hoke (they/he) is a freelance scholar and Christian educator who brings to life queer folks in and around the Bible for audiences as young as age 4 in addition to seminary and adult learners. Children’s ministry energizes them because they love engaging children’s curiosity as they learn to shape their own interpretations of biblical texts. Dr. Hoke is passionate about helping children develop lifelong curious and creative engagements with the Bible (that they won’t have to “unlearn” as adults). As Director of Children and Family Ministry at the House of Hope, they are piloting an LGBTQ+-centered Sunday School curriculum that takes queer biblical scholarship and makes it fun and accessible for young learners. Dr. Hoke is also Affiliated Faculty in New Testament at United Theological Seminary of the Twin Cities, the author of Feminism, Queerness, Affect, and Romans: Under God?, and the creator of “Queering the Lectionary.”
