OUR MISSION
The mission of the Eastern Star Church ministry is evangelism and discipleship. We are committed to the great commission instituted by Jesus Christ that is to nurture and save souls. (Matthew 28:18-20). Everything we have done is to live out this vision that the Lord has given to our church family. From adding ministries to staffing, from building facilities to adding programs, from stewardship to membership, it has all been for the purpose of being obedient to the commission of Christ.

YOUR ROLE IN OUR MISSION
The Director of Discipleship develops and administers a comprehensive unified educational program of Christian study and discipleship across Eastern Star Church campuses with opportunities for exposure to Christian doctrine and Bible study.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
•Develop the process for intentional evaluation of all classes and activities
•Develops and implements Christian Education departmental policies and procedures
•Develops and manages budgets and accounts
•Approves all curriculum for adult ministries, classes, workshops, retreats, and conferences with input from the Executive Director
•Plans, organizes, supervises and evaluates the activities of Eastern Star Church Teaching/Discipleship Institutes to include but not be limited to the following:
oDevelopment of an annual schedule and themes
oCurriculum research and development
oResearched, scheduled and promoted classes, conferences and workshops
oIdentification, training and evaluation of facilitators/teachers
•Plans, organizes, supervises and evaluates campus Midweek Bible Study to include but not be limited to the following:
oDevelopment of an annual schedule, themes and classes
oIdentification of teachers/facilitators
oPeriodic teaching
oApproval of all teaching outlines and handouts
•Plans, organizes, supervises and evaluates Sunday School for adults, young adults and children, to include but not be limited to the following:
oRecruit, train, support and evaluate teachers
oOrganize and evaluate new teacher training
oSupervise the Sunday School Superintendents
oConduct regular teacher meetings
oResearch, acquire and adapt curriculum materials
•Responsible for overseeing the direct reports who coordinate the IGNITE Teens, Teen Leadership and Children’s church programs
•Plans and implements annual Vacation Bible School sessions
•Coordinates ordering of all classroom/Christian study supplies
•Assures annual recognition/appreciation of all teachers
•Plans, organizes, supervises and evaluates special programs and activities
•Visits all ESC locations at least once a month to observe classes/activities
•Be available for teaching of specific topics and short-term classes
•Develops an effective work plan that prioritizes and outlines outcomes and timelines
•Coordinates with the Communications Department for publication of brochures, calendars, posters, flyers, EXALT articles, social media and related communications to help explain and promote Christian education direction
•Attends and conducts staff meetings and strategic planning sessions contributing and providing appropriate reports and information as requested
•Prepares oral and written reports as requested
•Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with co-workers and volunteers
•Ability to work as a member of a department team with willingness to cross-train team functions
•Communicates organizational, Christian educational goals and operational plans to all levels of the organization and congregation
•Ability to work with diverse people
•Ability to work in an occasionally demanding environment, to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, and meet established deadlines
•Ability to prioritize work tasks and efficiently allocate and manage time
•Possesses advanced computer skills, to include MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and database management
•Responsible for managing the scholarship programs
•Manages the special programs such as the Christmas Formal, Hallelujah Night, Watch Night, and Youth Conference
•Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS and IDEAL CHARACTERISTICS

The Director of Discipleship must be willing to become a member of Eastern Star Church within 90 days of hire and must be a consistent giver as an opportunity to show God Owns It All by giving back to Him the first of what He gives us (as per our Eastern Star Church Discipleship Policy). The ideal candidate will also have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and experience with Christian education, curriculum development etc.
•Master’s degree strongly preferred
•Solid understanding of basic Christian beliefs and theology
•Must have the spiritual gifts of Evangelism, Shepherding and Serving
•Strong creativity and innovation skills
•Ability to manage in a virtual environment
•Ability to lead teams
•Must have strong analytical, assessment, and evaluation skills
•Exceptional written and oral communications skills that are clear and easy to understand
•Strong interpersonal and exhortation skills with an ability to communicate with and provide counseling for members of diverse backgrounds
•Professional acumen with the ability to plan and prioritize tasks, maintain organization, handle confidential information, and be flexible in terms of scheduling
•Takes initiative to make decisions
