CTS Honors Day

On April 30,Christian Theological Seminary celebrated Honors Day with a special service in Sweeney Chapel at 11:30am. This day was set aside to recognize the outstanding work of our CTS students who deserve our congratulations, including the following award winners and nominees:

Trustee Award to Graduating Student for High Academic Achievement
    • Criteria: Awarded to the basic degree student, scheduled to graduate at spring commencement, who has the highest GPA through the preceding fall semester. 
    • Selection: by the Academic Dean; award to be presented by a representative of the Board of Trustees or the President of the Seminary. (editor’s note: at graduation)

Mary Wright Campbell

Field Awards
    • Eligibility: Students who are scheduled to participate in the spring commencement (this may include students who are graduating in May, have graduated the preceding December or who are scheduled to graduate prior to the falling fall semester).
    • Range: One award may be presented by each of the six Academic Fields. (The Award offered by the Systematic and Philosophical Theology Field will continue to be known as The Reverend William R. Bill Duffy Theology Prize.)
    • Criteria: Awarded to students who have demonstrated a passion for the subject beyond the requirements of the Field and who has demonstrated significant academic achievement, either by maintaining a consistent level of excellence or by exhibiting a trajectory of increasing competence.
    • Selection: by members of each Academic Field. Awards will be presented either by representatives from the individual fields or the Academic Dean.
    •  Protocol: It is recommended that the Academic Fields develop a short list of potential candidates and review the performance of these candidates in relation to their work over the course of their degree programs. Fields may request input from faculty advisors or other faculty members. However, the award must granted on the basis of the student’s work solely in the particular Field.

The Hoyt Hickman Award for Outstanding Liturgical Scholarship and Practice
Presented by the Order of Saint Luke to a graduating senior who has shown exceptional ability in liturgical scholarship and exceptional ability in leading worship.

Promise of Excellence in Ministry Award

    • Eligibility: M.Div. students who are scheduled to participate in the spring commencement (this may include students who are graduating in May, have graduated the preceding December or who are scheduled to graduate prior to the falling fall semester).
    • Criteria: Awarded to up to three students who have demonstrated capacity for imaginative pastoral leadership, effective integration of the Christian story and the context for ministry, a strong pastoral identity that sustains faithful ministry and consistently collaborates in shared leadership with others, and relates to the congregation and community with integrity and appropriateness.
    • Selection: by the Academic Dean, Dean of Students, and Director of Field Education, in consultation with the faculty. Award to be presented by the Director of Field Education.

Perseverance Award
    • Eligibility: Students who are scheduled to participate in the spring commencement (this may include students who are graduating in May, have graduated the preceding December or who are scheduled to graduate prior to the falling fall semester).
    • Criteria: Awarded to up to three students who have overcome great odds and demonstrated extraordinary strength of character in the completion of their degree programs.
    • Selection: by the Academic Dean, Dean of Students, and Director of Field Education, in consultation with the faculty. Award to be presented by the Dean of Students.
