Dr. Lyon says that disappointment is a common experience in human life. Yet how we deal with disappointment is a complicated matter—embedded within the rich and tangled emotional, cultural and spiritual histories that shape our lives.
This workshop is designed to help therapists and pastoral caregivers better conceptualize and respond to disappointment as it emerges in the clinical and pastoral context. Drawing on psychoanalytic theory, we will look at various forces and meanings that influence disappointment as well as clinical interventions that can assist in the symbolic reorganization of the emotional and spiritual matrix within which disappointment is held.
This is an ideal workshop for therapists, chaplains, college chaplains, campus ministers or anyone interested in better understanding the experience of disappointment.
