Charles W. Allen, Affiliate Professor of Theology at Christian Theological Seminary, holds a Ph.D. from The University of Chicago Divinity School, an M.Div. from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, and a B.A. from the University of Arkansas. While at Chicago, Allen was research assistant to David Tracy and administrative assistant to Stephen E. Toulmin for an international research conference on Continental and Anglo-American philosophy.

Allen came to Christian Theological Seminary in 1987 to direct a research project for the Lilly Endowment and was manager of the CTS Bookstore from 1992 until 2004. Allen teaches courses in philosophical and systematic theology. His course "Theology for the Welcoming Church" explores issues around the inclusion of gays and lesbians in the life of Christian communities. His articles have appeared in the Journal of Religion and Encounter.
