Faculty - Biblical Interpretation

Christian Theological Seminary (CTS) invites applications and nominations for an opening in biblical interpretation.  The position will be full-time, tenure-track or tenured, with faculty rank open to negotiation.

The successful candidate will have:

  • A terminal degree (PhD or ThD) in either Hebrew Bible or New Testament (consideration will be given to applicants in the final stages of completing their dissertations);
  • Additional expertise in another area, such as preaching, theology, or theological ethics;
  • The ability and willingness to teach one or more biblical languages;
  • A record of or promise for scholarly activity and service to a graduate educational institution; and,
  • Evidence of a strong commitment to congregational ministry (including possible service as a pastor of congregations) and preparing leaders for the Church.

Located in Indianapolis, Indiana, CTS is a theologically progressive, ecumenical seminary with historic and ongoing ties to the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).  The seminary’s recent significant achievements include the re-invention of the MDiv and DMin degree programs and the launch of a unique and innovative PhD degree program in African American Preaching and Sacred Rhetoric. A strong endowment, committed Board of Trustees, visionary academic administration, and talented faculty all position CTS well in continuing its mission of forming “disciples of Jesus Christ for church and community leadership to serve God's transforming of the world.”

Review of applications will begin by June 1, 2017 and an appointment can be made for the beginning of the 2017-18 academic year.  Applications will be welcomed until the position is filled.
